2 CONT Marcus was a Church of the Nazarene Preacher and with Ruth by his side their ministry took th
2 CONC em to several churches in Oklahoma and Kansas and also into evangelistic ministry. When he ap
2 CONC pllied for his Social Security number in 1955  he was at the Southside Church of the Nazaren
2 CONC e in Oklahoma City, OK. I met them in 1946 while they lived in Enid and spent many hours in t
2 CONC heir home. They were always very good to me, Marcus with his direct and forceful personalit
2 CONC y and Ruth in her gentle, loving way.
2 CONT

2 CONT My grandparents were such an important part of my life I can't imagine what I would be withou
2 CONC t their influence on me. They were so kind and patient and gave me unconditional love. Thei
2 CONC r religious faith had a strong impact on me. Not in the way I think they would have wanted be
2 CONC cause to this day I have no interest in religion. But I think I am a much better person becau
2 CONC se of their kindness and sincere commitment to their faith. I have many wonderful memories o
2 CONC f our times together. I guess the older I get the more those memories mean to me. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT We had great fun in the summers, grandad had a good sense of humor. I remember our outings t
2 CONC o the miniature golf course. There was one in particular that we went to several times. We wo
2 CONC uld play a round of golf (which grandmother always won and I think that kind of miffed granda
2 CONC d) and then eat watermelon. This place had picnic tables set up and whole watermelons, ( th
2 CONC e round dark green kind that I think  were called Black Diamond) in big tubs of ice water. Th
2 CONC e kind of tubs that pop used to be iced down in. We would select our melon and they would cu
2 CONC t it in huge chunks and we would sit and eat it at the tables under the stars. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT I remember getting in trouble with grandad during Church one Sunday. I was sitting with Pet
2 CONC e and I guess we were whispering and probably cutting up. He reprimanded us from the Pulpit i
2 CONC n the middle of his Sermon and I was mortified. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT I vaguely remember some of our road trips when I was little. Don't really remember where we w
2 CONC ent as much as the drive itself. When I was small he made me a little stool so that I could s
2 CONC it between them in the front seat and see the road (no seat belts back then) He would make jo
2 CONC kes that I thought were just hilarious about the bugs that splattered on the windshield. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT We took regular outings to the local drive-in for a Dairy Queen (an ice cream cone). I rememb
2 CONC er grandmother cooking all morning because they ate their main meal of the day at noon and th
2 CONC en my grandad would put a spoonful of Peanut Butter on his empty plate and then mix honey wit
2 CONC h it and that was one of his favorite deserts. They both watched their weight and my grandmot
2 CONC her would sit down on the floor several days a week to do her "excersises" 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Almost every weekday morning grandad would go to the Church office to work on his Sermon. H
2 CONC e would take me with him and I would sit at the piano in the Sanctuary and just play it by ea
2 CONC r for what seemed like hours and think that I was such a talented pianist.

2 CONT I miss them very much and will always be grateful for the heritage they gave me.

2 CONT Solomon Hoover and wife Sybella came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 23, 1749 fro
2 CONC m the German Palatinate. Their son, Thomas was born on April 05, 1750. Thomas was christene
2 CONC d on April 22, 1750 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, Pennsylvania. After the birt
2 CONC h of Thomas, Solomon and Sybella relocated to North Carolina. Solomon received a grant of 13
2 CONC 5 acres of land on the north branch of Killian's Creek in 1756. It appears that Thomas may ha
2 CONC ve been their only child. 
2 CONT Thomas Hoover grew up to marry Mariah Barbara Warlick, daughter of Johannes Daniel Warlick an
2 CONC d Maria Barbara Cora Schindler. In 1770, Barbara Warlick was deeded 200 acres of land near Po
2 CONC tt's Creek by her father, Daniel Warlick. It was on this land that Thomas and Barbara settle
2 CONC d and raised a family of twelve children. 
2 CONT In northern Lincoln County, North Carolina, near the border with Catawba County, the old Hoov
2 CONC er family cemetery is situated on a hillside overlooking state road 1217, known as "Hoover Ro
2 CONC ad." Across the highway from the Hoover cemetery, set well back from the road and surrounde
2 CONC d by woods, is the old Kistler family cemetery. 
2 CONT The Hoover cemetery is the resting place of H. Thomas Huver (as his name is spelled on his ma
2 CONC rker) and his wife, Mariah Barbara Warlick, and some of their descendants. 
2 CONT Sons Henry and Phillip left Lincoln County for Mecklenburg County and raised large families
2 CONC . Daughter Eve settled in Spartanburg, SC. Son Thomas made his fortune in Canton, Mississippi
2 CONC . The remaining children made their homes in the area where they were born and raised.

2 CONC eler and William F. Hoover Come here before my death and receive from me while alive what I h
2 CONC ave above in said items bequeathed unto each of them. Then and in that case ______ hereinafte
2 CONC r to be named, shall not pay to them said legacies; Should they however not Come, nor receiv
2 CONC e said legacies before I die then and in that Case my said Executors are to pay to each of th

2 CONT Fifteenth, It is my will and desire and I do so direct my Executors hereinafter to be named
2 CONC , if it can be done in accordance with the laws of the state of Mississippi, or if not, to ha
2 CONC ve a Special act of the Legislature of said State passed for that purpose, if that Cannot b
2 CONC e done in either of said ways - & if he should Choose to do so, be taken beyond the limits o
2 CONC f said State then & there to give unto my faithful man Servant Asa and his daughter Violet, t
2 CONC heir freedom, if he should be alive when I die. And I do further give and devise unto my Exec

2 CONC ter to be named should in their discretion and judgment think it best for the interest of m
2 CONC y estate, that it should be sold, sooner than that time, then and in that Case they may do s
2 CONC o under the direction of the Probate Court and in accordance with the law in such Cases. 
2 CONT Seventeenth, It is my will and desire that if the divisees named in the second, third, fourth
2 CONC , fifth, sixth, seventh, Eighth, ninth, tenth and Eleventh items or Clause of this my last wi
2 CONC ll and testament, should desire to do so, they can take and divide among themselves my negr
2 CONC o slaves that may be alive, they taking them at a fair valuation to be put upon them by appra
2 CONC isers to be appointed by the Probate Court of the County of Madison State of Mississippi, a
