RESEARCH


The Enid Public Library provides a genealogical area located on the second floor of the Library. The Marquis James Room for genealogical and historical research is also on the second floor.The Enid Genealogical Society maintains several of these research tools. There are many books, microfilm, microfiche and files of genealogical material. Microfilm and fiche readers are provided by the library. A reader copier, computers and copy machines are also available. The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County is located at 120 W. Main in downtown Enid.


Garfield County Genealogists, Inc. maintain a "Baby Talk" file of all births in Enid since 1978, as taken from Enid newspapers. We also maintain obituary records taken from local papers with a cross index to cemetery locations. There are extensive records of cemeteries in Garfield County and surrounding counties. These records are all kept at the enid Library.
A complete set of census film is available for the, Oklahoma 1900 and 1910 federal census plus many rolls of film for other states. Several rolls of the 1920 Oklahoma Census have been recently added. We will be happy to order upon request, for rent or purchase, any census or other film maintained by the American Genealogical Lending Library. This film is rented on a monthly basis and is kept at the library.
On Tuesday afternoons we have a volunteer member(s) at the library to assist you with your research or answer your questions.
Newspaper records for the Enid area are available on film at the Enid Library. These date back to the first newspaper in this area. Also available are probate and marriage films.
Files of genealogical records, such as a surname file, pedigree and family histories provided by present and past members of our society are kept at the library.
There is a Family History Center maintained by the Church of the Latter Day Saints located at 419 N. Eisenhower in Enid. They have many genealogical records available for research there or that can be ordered for a small fee. Their hours are: Tuesday 12:00n - 4:00pm; Wednesday 12:00n - 8:00 pm; Thursday 12:00n - 4:00pm; Friday 12:00n to 4:00pm. All researchers are welcome.
Members do research for $10.00/hour. Copy work charges are $0.15 per page plus SASE. Travel costs are added when necessary to research outside of Enid. Mail requests to P. O. Box 1106, Enid, OK, 73702 or print attached Research Request Form.
